Mission Statement
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community and hope.
Purpose Statement
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Our purpose is to build a strong and stable community by creating and preserving affordable homeownership opportunities for Archuleta County residents. To do so we promote, support, and create affordable homeownership opportunities throughout Archuleta County. We empower families to contribute and collaborate with Habitat Archuleta in achieving housing for all. Working with local contractors, volunteers, donors, and families, we will build a strong and sustainable community. Over the next 5 years we commit to building 15 homes and acquiring affordable mortgages for 25 additional families who share our values. Together we will change lives while creating a prosperous community in Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County.

Leah Ballard | Executive Director
Leah Ballard has been at Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County since the spring of 2022. After attending Homebuyer Education firsthand in 2018, Leah decided to pursue a career demystifying creditworthiness. She obtained her NMLS license in 2019 just before hiking the entire Pacific Crest Trail.
Leah then worked in the conventional mortgage world and perfected her file naming conventions, before finding her niche in the non-profit arena. Now her days are filled not only with the puzzle of mortgage loan packaging, but also the dynamic tasks of heralding volunteers, huge-hearted subcontractors, and the most vibrant board members and partner families a gal could ask for.
Madeline Bergon | Construction Project Manager
Madeline Bergon is a Pagosa Springs native and moved back to the area in 2012. She joined the Habitat Archuleta team in 2024 as the construction project manager, supporting the construction supervisor and volunteers on the jobsite, helping bring projects to life with skill and heart. With a background in the service and outdoor recreation industries, she brings a hands-on, people-focused approach to her work.
In 2017, Madeline built her own home—an experience that deepened her passion for construction and community-building. When she’s not on site, you’ll likely find her rafting a river or snowboarding down a mountain, always chasing the next adventure.
Jenny Highum | Office Administrator, Marketing, Event & Volunteer Coordinator
Born in Albuquerque, raised on green chile and good vibes. I made the move to Pagosa Springs in 2003 and never looked back—calling this mountain town “home” in every sense of the word. Since then, I’ve been living the full mountain-town life: juggling work, family, and a community I care deeply about.
Like many in small mountain towns, I’ve worn many hats. With a background in customer service, retail leadership, and over 20 years in nonprofit and event management, I’ve built a career around bringing people together and keeping the wheels turning. I live for small moments, big projects, and anything that builds stronger community roots.
Off the clock, I’m mom to three wild and wonderful kids (ages 7–14), dance-party enthusiast, and book lover. I believe in hard work, good humor, and the magic of a well-organized spreadsheet. Life is full—but it’s built with passion, hard work, and a genuine love for community.
Carrie Bryant | Mortgage Packager
Carrie is a Colorado native and has lived in Pagosa Springs for 9 years. Carrie has been doing mortgages for 27 years in many capacities and obtained her NMLS license in 2009. She has been a loan processor, loan originator and conventional underwriter for retail and broker mortgages. Carrie became a certified USDA 502 packager in 2024 and finds working with Habitat more fulfilling than other mortgage roles since this role truly helps those in need fulfill the dream of homeownership.
