Our Goal is to give low-income homeowners an opportunity to reclaim their homes with pride and dignity.

Through the Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) program, we help low-income homeowners impacted by age, disability and family circumstances, who struggle with home maintenance projects, an opportunity to reclaim their homes.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is an interior/exterior home preservation service that offers painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, weather stripping and minor repair services for homeowners in need.

Services can include:

  • Accessibility Modifications
  • Carpentry Repairs
  • Electrical Repairs
  • Plumbing Repairrs
  • Door/Window Repairs
  • General Cleaning
  • Landscaping
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Weather Stripping
  • Safety Repairs

How We Do It…

1. Habitat selects partner families based on income, need and willingness to partner.

2. Habitat uses volunteer labor and donated materials to keep costs low and take no profit for their services.

3. A no-interest loan is made to the homeowner to cover the cost of the project. Payments made by the homeowners are placed in a revolving fund to help Neighbors Helping Neighbors serve others in need.

Why It Matters…

Neighbors Helping Neighbors ensures that families live in safe and well-maintained homes. The program is designed to revitalize the appearance of the neighborhood, encourage connections within the community, and most importantly, help preserve affordable housing stock.

Once a homeowner’s eligibility is determined and their application is accepted, Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors program provides caring volunteer groups who come alongside and assist homeowners in completing their repairs.
